My first trip to LAH AH AND was as a baby. I wanted to be the shiny silver coin I saw before me. But the 20 pence piece, so shiny in my eye, was oh so choky in my throat. And then my four-month-old-self fell out of its body and into the SEEE.

Why Visit LAH AH AND?!?!?;1!?!?

The NEW FUNC Manifesto:

PURR URR HAPS To be alive is to be in tension. In tension between life and death; self and other; order(chaos)!! TerrorPleasure. Belief. And. Bewilderment. As we slip further from these tensions, further from survival and uncertainty, we confine life within walls of increasing convenience and rationale, detach from our environment and become the data-processing dead. To be alive, we must find new ways of being.

 

 LAH AH ANDers live to be engulfed by all that is. Resisting the rational, they wander over bridges of consciousness into other beings, melting together beyond identification towards the overwhelming connection between everything and its infinite ambiguity. And here, in the wonderment of uncertainty, in a temporal dance with AK CHEW AL, all is alive as the throbbing whole.

 

I visit LAH AH AND to explore new ways of being. On my return, I try to show these possibilities for ourselves in Paintings. And while these possibilities remain framed implausible, I create Recipes for new actions we can do now, to be alive. In these actions, tensions contract and expand. Self and other dance together, away from rationale. Towards the uncertainty of being, in which we can swim, closer, together, closer, to present, and eternal, terror, and love.

The Tribes and their methods of hunting AK CHEW AL

 

  1. NARA RA RAYTA are the one tribe who actively seek to experience the world through the filter of words, if only to tear that filter apart.  Their language (based on the English tongue which initially licked infectious labels throughout LAH AH AND) has become ridiculized through space and time. Minds are pulled out of skulls, swirling into conversations where labels reform reality and the meaning filter thickens the sauce. This imaginary sauce seeps across the floor creeping up on and crystallising forms into things with chimeral names. It is entering these hallucinatory realms through which LAH AH AND has received its labels, but while NARA RA RAYTA conversations row further and further from AK CHEW AL, their actions blast them back upstream. Utilising ritualistic movement and chant, they narrate the perceived in order to create disjunctures between meaning and perception. Movement and chant and movement and chant rupture the pull further apart, frazzling the mind until the pattern recognition machine erupts, labels melt away from things, and we trample over their shedded skins in a temporal dance with AK CHEW AL.​

  1. YAY are named after their favourite and only vocal sound. “YAY!” they scream down the stream into synchronicity.  “YAY!” they wail as they flail into supersymmetry. NARA RA RAYTA suggest this is rooted in their search for Objective Beauty; “YAY” complying with principals of simplicity, fluidity, and most importantly, sounding the same backwards. With their principals of Beauty, YAY at first seem bizarrely rational, but this has its bounds. One of these principals, that of Supersymmetry, dictates that every action has a counter-action, every principal a counter-principal (including supersymmetry itself), so that all principals may or may not exist. In their search for overwhelming Beauty, YAY may act in symmetry/asymmetry, synchronicity/asynchronicity, simplicity/complexity, harmony/disharmony, variety/sameness, intricacy/obviousness, abundance/scarcity, and fluidity/awkwardness. The key in their search for the mercurial Truth in Beauty, is that their actions intensify aesthetic pleasure. Building this intensity, they burrow towards AK CHEW AL until it engulfs them and they become Objective Beauty.

  1. MEZA ZA YE YE are measurers of existence, seeking to enter the rhythms of life. Embodying measurements, they warp themselves deeper into measurement holes. Deeper to scales where repetitious fluctuations blur boundaries and values; retention of difference slipping away. Sensory Memory has Sensory memory has nothing to grasp to nothing to nothing to nothing to nothing to Beyond, deeper beyond, enter the Granular where time and space verge towards the eternal and non-existent, deeper beyond measure where measurements collapse into all possible values collapse into AK CHEW AL.

  1. VAK YOO AK YOO OOM are said to be wild, entirely non-sensical beings whose erratic actions tumble without minds through perpetual bewilderment. They are unresponsive to any attempts at verbal communication, but gazing into their worm-hole eyes, one can only imagine eternal chaos behind.  Their actions appear to be a continual resistance of filtration. They refuse to filter their environment, refuse to recognise and order the world, actively seeking to overload their senses in order to enter a deeper realm of catatonia. In the depths of sensorial sewers, saturated senses soaked in hyper-sensory-shit explode. Turd-flakes on fire fall through the air melting time and space and everything melting down and around into AK CHEW AL.

  1. NNNNNUNZZZ search for AK CHEW AL in tensions. They see these tensions as conversations which may be in the self (between selves), in the environment (between laws of nature), or in both (artificial instincts and natural order). As aspects collide or pull apart, NNNNNUNZZZ try to be with these tensions, commune with them, aggravate them if necessary, until they are consumed by the tension, its meaning crumbles away and the tension consumes itself. Here, there is only tension and no tension at all; everything pulsating together in AK CHEW AL.
